Even in Coronavirus pandemic situation, we feel better when suddenly in the morning, just on the leaf’s surface, we saw bird droppings which are signs of serenity, it means they have slept soundly on top of trees all night.
Biodiversity is everything. The emergence of COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the fact that when we destroy biodiversity in the shape of buildings, more houses, and increasing our population, we destroy the system that supports human life. The more biodiverse an ecosystem is, the more difficult it is for one pathogen to spread rapidly or dominate; whereas, biodiversity loss provides opportunity for pathogens to pass between animals and people.
“What are you doing in Gileboom ecolodge in this situation?“
Guests always ask us this question and here is our answer:
It is more than 6 months that we are closed due to Coronavirus pandemic situation! Best time to practice biodiversity. We planted comprehensively different endemic trees and plants, now there are more than 50 species of them. After 7 years, insects are repelled naturally and even natural poison are not used. Beneficial predator insects are host.
Human being has changed the system that would naturally protect us and created conditions that allow particular pathogens– including corona viruses– to spread.
It is time to re-imagine our relationship with nature and put nature at the heart of our decision-making.
Today, it is estimated that, globally, about one billion cases of illness and millions of deaths occur every year from diseases caused by corona viruses; and about 75 percent of all emerging infectious diseases in humans are zoonotic ones, meaning the diseases are caused by germs that spread between animals and people.
Nature is sending us a message!
